This is the sixth in this series of translations of 'Selected Poems' of famous Malayalam Poets that Mr. Panicker presents to the enlightened readers who may not know Malayalam but are interested to read, understand, and appreciate Malayalam Poetry. Among the comity of languages widely read, Malayalam has the 29th position – and Malayalam is considered as one among the more vibrant languages, rich in thought and expression – be it poetry or fiction – that are comparable with the best anywhere and in any language. The approach in these translations is that of a translator and not of a trans creator.This book as the title suggests, is a translation of selected poems written by renowned poet Sugathakumari.Two of the poems included in this volume are translations of Sugathakumari’s poems ‘Colossus’ on page 9 5 and ‘For You Equal Hearted One’ on page 9 8 are translations by her Late Sister Hridayakumari.Mr. Panicker sincerely wishes and hopes that leaving aside the shortfalls his translations carry with them, they take the renowned poetess Smt. Sugathakumari and her poetry one step closer to the intellectual community spread all over the world, enabling them to evaluate, understand, and appreciate.
